I remember when poor Freddie's owned this place back in the days.A few friends and family of mine knew poor Freddie personally. At that time he had the best soul food anywhere. I grew up hearing the stories.

From the fried chicken macaroni and cheese..potato salad cornbread pork chops smothered in gravy collard greens..pig feet black eyed peas Turkey wings chitterlings smoked neck bones the list goes on I could go on for days.

This was the main soul food spot hands down. The folks would flock to this place by the droves..but even today it still gives you some good food. But some remember the times when no one could compete with poor Freddie's rib shack soul food restaurant.

    Rate it a 3.8.

FOOD ORDERED: Rib dinner, comes with 2 sides, i got green beans and macaroni and cheese. it's $12.39; which is a phenomenal price!!

i added small sides of cabbage($2.75) and a peach cobbler($2.99) to my order

GOOD: Food came fast, portion was good for price, they didn't charge for the side of sauce(came in large container), ribs were tender, green beans seasoned perfectly.

BAD/NEEDS IMPROVEMENT: They forgot my water i paid for, cabbage needed seasoning like the green beans, peach cobbler looked so good; but lacked in taste tremendously! the peaches were too soggy, y'all use too much nutmeg and not enough brown sugar, or something else to cut the nutmeg. The crust was hard and chewy; it looked like a piece of pie crust. Oh the bbq sauce was a dub, it was really ketchupy!! Please work on these, i'll be back.

I have lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years passing by in front of this place and this is my first time. I was not disappointed, the chicken was tender and moist. The rice and cabbage was well seasoned. The prices are affordable and reasonable. Will definitely go back.

This place is a staple in the community. For some time there were some issues with the food, because of the change in management, but they are right back. Serving delicious soul food and moist cornbread. My go-to order is the Beef Rib dinner with Mac n cheese and Collard Greens. The Sauce from the ribs complement the Mac n cheese so food touching is not a problem. I would dare say that this is the best soul food spot in Queens.
